Change WP Permalinks for SEF Url
Permalinks in WordPress are the URLs that you see in your browser’s address bar. In Wordpress the first thing you need to do is get rid of default permalink structure TLD /?p=postname, there a way to get more love from search engine with simple adjustment WP permalink to SEF url for making it better in SEO. WordPress gives you to customize your permalinks.
Well, it should have its own section within the ‘Settings’ section on the left-sided panel,
go to Settings
-> Permalinks.
Admittedly, you’ll see a whole lot of stuff here that might not make any sense to you, but no big deal. All that ‘mystery stuff’ really means is how your URLs appear. By default, Wordpress URLS look something like: http://yourdomain.com/?p=postname
What you would like them to look like is more along the lines of: http://yourdomain.com/category/postname.htm Or something like that anyway. Some choose to insert the date in too, but that can cause URLs to get very long.
Basically, the reason you’re doing this is so that your URLs actually contain words rather than just funny looking numbers with question marks. If they contain words, they’ll cater more to search engines and keyword targeting.
Considering this is such an easy change to make, you should do it right away! All that you really need to do is, in the ‘Custom’ section, write:
/%category%/%postname%.htm
Or
/%postname%.htm
On the same page, there is another optional field named Category base. And while you are at it, you are going to make use of it too. You are going to enter a short word to replace the word category that is attached to your category URLs. Let’s enter /tag here (or anything else that is shorter than the word category)
